The need for a community manager has recently accelerated in the startup world and I’m seeing more openings at bay area startups for this position. Actually, this is my position at Yoono. My experience in social network / marketing and my evangelism of Yoono prior to joining the company has made this an extremely fun experience for me.
Let’s say you have been hired as a community manager and now have the passwords to the company blog & Twitter account and now it’s time to get started. It’s difficult to start off because every community manager didn’t go to college for this and a very small amount have experience with this prior to the position they’re in. Here are some questions that enter your mind:
1. How do I get started?
2. How do I talk to the community?
3. What’s the best way to connect with our user base?
4. Any tips to make things a little easier?
All of these questions have answers and I’d like to make it easier for community managers to connect and share ideas. There are currently 2 groups of community managers that meet up once a month. if you’re a community manager for a bay area startup and would like to connect with us, leave a comment or email me and I’ll get you started.
