Yoono’s Privacy Policy Explained

June 27th, 2008

Here at Yoono we’ve got tons of cool ideas floating around that we think are going to make living on the web a whole lot more fun for you. You’ll start seeing these ideas come out as we make improvements and updates to the public beta version of Yoono.

We’ve also been listening to what you’ve been telling us about what you like and don’t like about Yoono. Keep the feedback coming! Please!

Some of the biggest concerns we’ve heard from you are about your personal privacy. Since we take this issue very seriously at Yoono, we thought we would take a minute to explain some main points from our Privacy Policy. Here’s how it works:

Info You Provide Us
When you install Yoono and register, you give us info like your name and email address. Sometimes if you correspond to us via email, we’ll hold onto those messages and your email address to help us improve our customer service and stay in contact with you.

What does this mean for you?
We’ll email you only about Yoono: if we’re looking for feedback, when you need help with the toolbar, if you forget your password, or if we’re throwing a party :) . And we’ll never give your email and name to a third party, we know what getting spam is all about and we’d never do that to you.

Cookies
Yoono uses cookies or small text files to help to quickly identify your computer to make logging in and navigating a lot faster. These cookies never collect your personal information. Third parties only get the keywords collected during your surf sessions for relevant info, links and ads. We do this to make your web experience better!

What does this mean for you?
All that analysis that goes into recommending relevant sites and content happens in your browser. Yoono never tracks where you are surfing, the sidebar just extracts keywords.

Bookmarks
Yoono takes the bookmarks that you save on your browser and uses keywords from those bookmarks to display in your member profile. If you choose to sync your bookmarks but not to share them with the rest of the community, nobody will see them

What does this mean for you?
You can sync your bookmarks with Yoono and will have them every time you log into Yoono,  on any computer. You can chose to share your bookmarks or keep them private.

Your Personal Info
Yoono will never rent or sell your personally identifiable info to others. We use your personal information solely for the purpose of providing services to you.

What does this exactly mean for you?
We would never share any of your important information with anyone outside of Yoono. And we only use the info you give us to provide you with Yoono services.
When you integrate your Facebook, Twitter, Flickr etc. account into Yoono, it doesn’t change anything regarding the privacy options you set up on those different networks. When you connect on Yoono with people you are not connected with on Facebook, they won’t be able to access your Facebook profile. Likewise, your Twitter friends won’t see your Flickr account if you add Twitter and Flickr to your Yoono.
Non-Personal Info
Sometimes people are interested in what’s going on with Yoono, so we occasionally provide them with anonymous info like usage data.

What does this exactly mean?
We’ll give people like reporters info such as downloads rates, number of clicks, and platform types. None of this info can be used to identify you

Yoono works with third party ad-servers and ad networks to display advertisements and links directly in the sidebar.  Sometimes third parties automatically retrieve your IP address, but will never take your name or any personal info.

What does this exactly mean?
We send keywords to advertisers and they send us back relevant ads we display in your. Advertisers never accees or take your personal information.

Yoono takes every possible step to protect your private information.  Please read our Privacy Policy and our Terms of Agreement for the whole story.

And if you have any questions or concerns please lets us know at Privacy [at] Yoono [dot] com.

Introducing… Did You Know…

June 27th, 2008

There are a whole lot of things the Yoono sidebar can do to make your web experience easier and more fun. So to help our Yoono community get the most out of the new sidebar we’re starting a new series here on the Community Blog called “Did Yoono..” (Clever, isn’t it?)

So here goes… Did You Know… about Yoono’s display modes? When you first install Yoono, the expanded version appears. But you can collapse the toolbar AND open each widget in a new window, the same as a desktop application. Check it out.

Yoono Announces $4 Million in New Funding, Looks Ahead

June 25th, 2008

In case you haven’t heard the news yet (more here,) everyone at Yoono is stoked to announce a new $4 million round of funding. So what does it all mean? Well, first we can pay off our bar tabs from Kate O’Brien’s. ;)

But there’s a whole lot more. Over here at Yoono, we don’t just want to help social media geeks cure their social fatigue. We think we can help all kinds of people harness the power of the web. We want everyone from doctors to rockers, businessmen to garbage men and everyone in-between to get the most out of living on the internet in the easeist way possible.

The first problem we tackled was search, Yoono recommends web pages and content that we think you’ll really like based on how you spend your time on the internet. .

Now we’re helping you manage your social networks. With the explosion of social media, it is getting really tough to keep track all of your networks. Yoono helps you play in your networks like Facebook, FriendFeed and Twitter and so many more, all in one place. We also make sharing content with your friends really easy.

Looking down the road road we’ve got a lot great ideas that we think will make your life easier and more fun. We’re tackling all kinds of problems so you can focus on what’s important: interacting with your friends, discovering new ideas, meeting new people and living your life!

Huh, how cool is that?

Yoono Paris Party: Go, go, go!

May 26th, 2008

We swear: we do not spend all our evenings partying! We all have families and full-time jobs to keep us busy. Yet, since we are in a rather special period (launch of our private beta, new people coming in, …), we are having another great party, next Thursday, at Studio Cyclone, Paris (13th Arr.), France! It starts at 5.30 PM with a press conference, followed at 6.30 PM by a roundtable (“Will the Social Web survive?” with P. Josselin - Yoono, A. Martin - Author, E. Duval – Mediametrie Net Ratings, D. Cardon – Orange Labs, S. Allard – Via Nova Spheeris) and an open bar cocktail from 7.30 PM ‘til 12 PM. The mix of champagne, delicious appetizers, cool schwags and great people, along with a beautiful venue and a nice Paris weather, should bring interesting and unexpected results… See you there!

Yoono goes to Googleplex

May 26th, 2008

Yoono technical team is made of wild and untamed developers. As dangerous as it may seem, some of them get sometimes unleashed and wander freely across the country. Following their primal instinct, they naturally head to technical gatherings and conferences. And this is exactly what happened during the OpenSocial Summit, held at the GooglePlex. Two of them, Guillaume and Yann, even demoed Yoono to the whole and stunned attendance. Patrick from Google posted a summary on his blog, along with a few videos. Thanks peep!

Reminder: Yoono Beta Party tomorrow!

May 12th, 2008

Hey there,

I hope none of you forgot we are having a party tomorrow evening, starting at 6pm at the Varnish Gallery, SF. Check this out here.

It’s gonna be a hell of a party. A lot of cool people already confirmed they’ll come, there will be an open bar and yummy appetizers and we can’t wait to show you the special schwags we’ve just received.

A first user-generated Yoono tutorial

May 12th, 2008

As you may suspect, we are always delighted by positive feedback from our users. However, we usually don’t boast too much about it and prefer to focus on solving the “other” feedbacks (Did I say negative?). But today, we’d like to highlight the first tutorial elements that Jonathan published on his blog. Jonathan, on behalf of the whole Yoono team: thanks dude, you rock!

For those who still have troubles taming our new version, a brand new website with complete tutorial will be released very soon. Hang in there just a few more days!
